CALI GREEN

Cali is a journalist, creative strategist, and former professor at NYU Tisch with successful projects across North America and the United Kingdom. An award-winning writer, producer, director, and on-air/podcast host, Cali is driven by her passion for the arts, education, tech, and social good. Her expertise in creative, community, corporate, academic, and nonprofit leadership allows her to cultivate true influence through words, images, and events for a range of brands and services. Her bylines include BET, The Root, The Future of Commerce, and Okayplayer.

“I’m not sure how I would operate without Cali. There have been so many times I've sent her an email asking ‘could this thing happen?’ And then it happens. It's kind of staggering. She’s magic.” -Daveed Diggs - Actor, Writer, Producer

Cali is also a recognized thought leader in mentorship, editorial/journalism, event production, creative collaboration, workshop creation, and data-driven analysis.

A versatile writer, editor, and producer, Cali has created engaging work in culture/lifestyle, technical writing, SEO-driven content, and personal essays. Topics include: travel, consumer experience, equity & inclusion, women's health, mental well-being, arts/entertainment, and more.

“So fun to chat with the truly delightful and brilliant Cali Green.” -Win Rosenfeld - President of Monkeypaw Productions (and Cali’s Podcast Guest)

She has a proven track record in successfully executing brand strategies, enhancing social media engagement, and relationship development. Her workshops and activations emphasize calls-to-action while amplifying awareness to garner support.

A staunch advocate/activist in mental health and social justice, Cali helmed operations and strategy for ‘me too.’ Movement, co-produced a fundraiser for Flint, MI with Ryan Coogler, and has partnered on PR strategy for Ava DuVernay.

“When we put on a volunteer-driven concert for the people of Flint, Michigan, Cali became instantly indispensable. Booking artists, producing, planning and revising runs of show, and adding her signature joyous spirit to all the late-night meetings and hours of challenging and tedious work required to make a show like that a success with very little lead time. Cali has the talent, tenacity, and acumen to continue making big things happen in the arts and social justice.” -Dan Roth - Blackout for Human Rights, Civil Rights Attorney

Cali collaborates with (and learns from) brilliant thought leaders and activists such as Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, Issa Rae, Rachel Cargle, EbonyJanice Moore, Jasmine Cephas-Jones, Black Thought, and others.

Dubbed “The Beyoncé of Getting Shxt Done” by an industry colleague, Cali will spend much of 2024 writing her first book and continuing her advocacy for others with “invisible” disabilities.

“Most important, Cali is a good person. She cares about people and making sure they feel important and empowered. She gets things done, period. She's a natural leader, a ‘cheerleader’ for others, and she does it all with dedication to seeing everyone win. I'm grateful for the time she kept watch on my team.” -Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson - The Roots, Okayplayer.com

Cali began her career in Chicago, IL as an on-air personality, actor, and entertainment writer. She hosted a national television series called GameZcape for two seasons in the early 2000s. After moving to New York in 2008, Cali added event and content production to her repertoire, before also working as Managing Editor and Director of Social Media for Okayplayer, a renowned lifestyle brand.

Her passion for the intersection of the arts, tech, and social good has led her to seek people, projects, and organizations with this mission. As a member of Blackout for Human Rights (a social justice collective founded by Coogler and DuVernay), Cali managed talent and helped to produce Justice for Flint, a star-studded fundraising event honoring and benefiting Flint, MI. As a volunteer and Team Leader for organizations including New York Cares, Blind Service Association, Boys & Girls Club, Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN Academy), and Shaping Her Earth, Cali has taught workshops and long-term programs in writing, drama, music, and literacy.

Cali is also a sought-after speaker, frequently requested to moderate or appear in conversations including: “On Purpose: How Consumers Use Their Wallets to Drive Social Change” (panelist); “Reimagining Your Freedom: A Black Creative’s Journey to Liberation” (panelist), “A Year of Black Joy” (IG Live series guest), “#CXTweetChat: The Black Experience in Tech” (panelist); “Women in Hip Hop” at Apollo Theater (moderator); “Breaking Stereotypes for Women in Business” at Taylor PR (panelist); and “Music Journalism” at the A3C Music Festival in Atlanta (panelist).

[Cali] is highly effective and goal-driven with an impressive resume of experience. What makes her really special, though, is that she possesses a natural warmth and genuine likability, which in my opinion is what makes her truly effective. Her relationships are solid, people love her and love working with her. Artists and clients trust her, they are drawn to her and want to share things with her. Her passion for what she does is immediately obvious and she is driven by the right motivations. The combo of her personality, professionalism, and expertise make her stand out in every environment. We honestly adore her.” - Nicole Hegeman -Humanistic Artist Management

In 2012, Cali pivoted from the sixteen years she’d spent in front of cameras and sold the first show she ever pitched: “Talking to Strangers with Hannibal Buress.” As the show’s co-creator and executive producer (and Hannibal’s publicist at the time), it was a Big Win in her career.

If the series doesn’t sound familiar, that’s okay: it never aired. (The checks cleared, however.)

Despite the outcome, Cali was empowered and encouraged by the experience. She continues to be a sought-after storyteller and collaborator—producing, writing, directing, and editing short films, music videos, digital content, podcasts, and live/virtual events.

In 2022, Cali was co-host, writer, and producer of “April & Cali are UNEDITED,” a twice-weekly show commissioned by Twitter for a three-month run. Also a very public advocate/activist for mental health and social justice, Cali co-produced Ryan Coogler’s highly publicized fundraiser for Flint, MI (#Justice4Flint), partnered on PR for “National Day of Racial Healing” with Ava DuVernay, and helmed operations for ‘me too.’ Movement with Tarana Burke.

To date, Cali has worked with (and learned from) brilliant creatives and activists, including: Coogler, DuVernay, Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monáe, Anthony Ramos, Burke, Jasmine Cephas-Jones, DeWanda Wise, Rachel Cargle, Marc Lamont Hill, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Daveed Diggs, Black Thought, Rafael Casal, and others.

Cali also served as showrunner & executive producer for Apollo Theater’s first-ever ticketed digital event. Produced and presented by her event series concept, Screen/Play™, the event celebrated the classic film House Party. Cali curated the show’s content in its entirety: booking the actors, creatives, and musicians, as well as directing and editing all segments.

In 2020, Cali served as producer, writer, and director for an event wherein she booked Robert De Niro, Anthony Ramos, DeWanda Wise, Nicole Beharie, Angela Nissel, Rachel Cargle, Marc Lamont Hill, and more for a non-profit.

In 2019, Cali produced her first stage play titled Blanks (Signature Theatre, NYC) from multi-award winning playwright Gethsemane Herron. This accomplishment further established her as a theatre producer, leading to her most recent show in 2023: A Strange Loop at London’s Barbican Theatre.

Cali resides among the United Kingdom, Mexico, and the United States.
